According to recent reports, timber companies in Northwest Russia have experienced a significant decline in the volume of timber harvested and processed compared to the previous year. Statistical departments within the major regions involved in timber harvesting and processing, as part of the Northwest Forestry Development Authority, have confirmed these findings.
In the Leningrad region, the production of unprocessed wood from January to May this year witnessed a decrease of 29.5%, equivalent to 1.1 million cubic meters. Additionally, sawn timber production decreased by 18%, amounting to 219.7 thousand cubic meters, while wood pellets experienced a drastic decline of 76.6%, totaling 14,000 tonnes.
