New Boss at Western Forestry Co-op Takes the Helm!

Western Forestry Co-op Names Noreen Barrett as Incoming CEO, Successor to Marina Conway

The Western Forestry Co-op has recently made a significant announcement regarding the appointment of Noreen Barrett as its new CEO, set to assume the role on July 1, 2024. Barrett will succeed Marina Conway, the current CEO, who will be stepping down on June 28, 2024. Conway, who has served as CEO for 11 years, revealed her decision to resign back in April.

Barrett, who has been serving as the finance manager of the Western Forestry Co-op since February 2016, brings a wealth of experience to her new position. She is a charted certified accountant and a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. The board’s decision to appoint Barrett as the new CEO was met with enthusiasm, with Western Forestry Co-op chair Robert Hosey expressing his delight at the selection.

Hosey stated, “I am delighted to officially announce Noreen as the new CEO. Her dedication and expertise have played a crucial role in the success of the Western Forestry Co-op. Noreen’s experience and commitment have been instrumental in safeguarding the long-term economic and social viability of the co-op during challenging times in Irish forestry.”

Outgoing CEO Marina Conway also commended Barrett, highlighting her contributions to the senior management team and her deep understanding of farm forestry. Conway emphasized the vital role that the Western Forestry Co-op plays as a leader in farm forestry and expressed her confidence in Barrett’s ability to lead the organization effectively.

Established to provide support and guidance to farmers in afforesting marginal areas of their farms rather than opting to sell the land to private investors, the Western Forestry Co-op plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable forestry practices in Ireland. Noreen Barrett’s appointment as CEO marks a new chapter for the organization, and her leadership is expected to further strengthen the co-op’s position in the forestry sector.
